Austria: Carinthia

From the Alps to the Adriatic: The Alpe-Adria-Golf Card lets you golf from the south of the mountains down to the azure blue of the sea...

Everyone will find their favourite golf course in Carinthia! Carinthia, Austria's southernmost province, is known for more than just carefree holidays with warm swimming lakes and as a destination for nature lovers who enjoy hiking and cycling.

With 12 attractive golf courses, Carinthia is also a paradise for all those who have fallen in love with chasing that small, white ball around a green expanse. And why might that be? Each course has its own air and its own special challenges. Each course is characterised by the wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and each one is also close to a swimming lake. There is no limit to the variety that can be squeezed into one day.

Sometimes in spring, it is even possible to ski and play golf on the same day. What golfers really enjoy in Carinthia is the Carinthian Alps-Adriatic cuisine, with regional and seasonal delicacies, such as Kärntner Käsnudel (cheese and potato-filled pasta pockets) or Kärntner Laxn (lake trout). This possibility is partly because of the cross-border Alpe-Adria-Golf Card, which helps the integration of the Alps-Adriatic region (Austria, Italy, Slovenia).

This makes using Carinthia as a base for golfing all year round possible. Golfers can get to know three countries, three cultures and three kinds of cuisine in just one holiday. Ten of the Carinthian golf clubs and nearly 40 hotels are partners of the Alpe-Adria-Golf Card, many further golf courses in Italy and Slovenia round off the golf experience down to the Adriatic Sea. You can even visit three countries in one golfing day.

Carinthian Alpe-Adria cuisine

It goes without saying that there is more to do in Carinthia than just play golf. Cuisine is also of considerable importance here, to the great joy of golfers. This year, Carinthia is presenting its guests with an especially diverse menu made from regional products from the world's first slow food travel destination: the Gailtal and Lesachtal Valleys. Visitors will encounter 'memories of childhood' at every turn on their sun-filled holidays. The influence of Austria's southern neighbours, Italy and Slovenia, on all of the delicacies available, can't be missed; it was from the culinary traditions of these two countries that the unique Carinthian Alpe- Adria cuisine emerged long ago, which guarantees guests' enjoyment.
