Consider a break in one of the most characterful countries in Continental Europe
The Czech Republic is a hidden secret not only for a great golf experience but also for cities and places inscribed on the UNESCO world heritage list. One of the most visited countries in Central Europe is easily accessible from major European airports, only about an hour's flight from the UK. Don't miss a chance to discover hidden golf courses and sights in the heart of Europe.
We can these days label the Czech Republic as a safe and friendly destination, where its visitors can admire many historical and cultural sights together with a surprising quality of golf and the hospitality of the local people. This all makes for an unforgettable visit for all.
Despite the fact the Czech Republic has more than 100 golf courses, the number of Czech golfers is still low and this makes it a heaven for golf tourists, who can test themselves at the best PGA courses around the country. The most attractive place for tourists is Prague, the capital of Czech Republic and 'City of Hundred Spies' with more than 10 golf courses located up to an hour's drive from the city centre.
Another famous region beside Prague is West Bohemia, where the first golf courses were established more than 100 years ago. It's an ideal chance to combine a Prague city break with relaxation in one of the famous spa towns. The first golf courses were opened there in 1904 (Karlovy Vary) and 1905 (Marianske Lazne). Moreover, this area is well known for healing springs and beautiful nature lining the borders with Germany.
Other regions worth mentioning are North and South Moravia, well known for its wine production and local traditions. This all makes the Czech Republic a great destination for a long weekend or week-long holiday full of culture, sightseeing, golf and a generally relaxing experience. Take the opportunity and enjoy a great golf and have fun in Czechia!
Prague: The gateway to great golf
With many historical and cultural highlights, Prague a great place to relax, sightsee, shop or take the chance to taste local cuisine, especially the Czech dumplings. The main centre is full of many Czech and international restaurants, bars and offers excellent nightlife, which makes this destination ideal for a long weekend break. Visitors to Prague should not miss the renowned Prague Castle – the biggest castle ground in the world or magnificent Charles Bridge – filled with pedestrians walking from Old Town Square towards the Prague Castle. Great meals, drinks, culture, opera, shopping, nightlife, brewery and winery tours, wellness and spa... you name it, you will find it at a high standard, all within two hours' flying time from all major European airports.
Albatross Golf Resort
About 35 minutes by car from the centre of Prague
This 18-hole world-class course that opened in 2009 is close to Prague, about 20 minutes from the airport. This course was built with a vision to create the best course in the Czech Republic and is maintained with the highest attention to detail. The elegantly shaped contours in the moderately hilly terrain with rust-coloured rocks lining water hazards make for a striking layout.
The splendid clubhouse hosts a renowned restaurant with a considerable terrace overlooking a large putting green and the whole course. The course was voted the best in the Czech Republic according to Czech golfers participating in an survey on www.golfova-hriste.cz several times. It has hosted the Ladies European Tour and has been the official home to a European Tour event since 2014 as well as an official member of European Tour Properties.
Loreta Golf Resort
About 35 minutes by car from the centre of Prague
This course was designed by Keith Preston and offers 18 holes with a par of 72. Loreta is situated in the beautiful countryside of Posazavi and was opened in June 2013. The architect has managed to make use of the local rugged landscape, preserving many hedgerows, woodland nooks and full- grown trees.
The design was created with regards to building the sport, a demanding course from the championship tees as well as a fair and playable one for intermediate players of yellow and red tees. Practice area, trolleys and buggies rental or lessons with a pro are also available here. In the background, guests can enjoy the clubhouse, which offers all the comfort of a restaurant, pro shop, locker rooms, caddy room as well as relaxation, meeting and accommodation facilities.
Panorama Golf Resort
About 45 minutes by car from the centre of Prague
This 27-hole golf course was opened in 2016 in the beautiful area of Posazavi. Designed by an international team led by Libor Jirasek, Michael Terech and Rainer Preissmann, this golf resort offers a very challenging golf experience.
The first nine, Forest, dominates the course and offers very interesting and challenging holes. The second nine, Meadows, is quite demanding and undulating too, but both boast panoramic views. The third nine, River, sits near the Sazava River and is less undulating but more demanding because of many water hazards.
Players can also enjoy buggies included in local play and a play-and-stay package deal – and after golf, in a modern clubhouse by Martin Rajnis, which along with an elegant interior offers relaxing seating on the terrace. There is a great restaurant that also serves local specialities as well as a decent hotel at the resort.
Konopiste Golf Resort
About 45 minutes from the centre of Prague
This biggest golf resort in the Czech Republic opened its first 18 holes in 2002. Konopiste offers two high-standard 18-hole courses – Radecky and d'Este. The superbly refurbished Manor House provides conference facilities and an excellent hotel and stunning courtyard terrace.
There is also a nine-hole public course, practice facilities, lessons with a pro, two restaurants, golf shop, trolley, golf cart with GPS and golf equipment rental. Due to large accommodation plus relaxation and meeting facilities, this resort is a unique golf and spa complex not to be missed in the Prague area.
