CLUB COMMENT: No significant changes.

It is located on a sliver of land only a couple of fairways wide – it’s hemmed in by Irvine Bay and the ubiquitous railway line – and unusually the clubhouse is in the middle of the course. The prevailing wind helps you at the start and the finish, meaning the stretch from 5 to 13 can be brutally hard if it’s blustery. A final qualifier for Opens at Turnberry and Troon, Western Gailes’ gently undulating fairways also hosted the Curtis Cup in 1972.
