Unusually, the highest ranked of a club’s collection of courses is its youngest. The Marquess only opened in 1999, but quickly establish itself as the premier track. The fairways are wider and more undulating than on the other two and are lined by oak, yew and beech trees rather than the forests of pine on its older sisters. Two years after opening it stole the British Masters from the Duke’s due to it being a bigger, bolder track.
