Downfield has hosted the Scottish Amateur and British Girls as well as Final Qualifying for the Opens of 1999 and 2007. You might therefore be picturing a rugged links – but it is not. Downfield is a rolling, tree-lined parkland with water features on seven holes. It stretches to over 6,800 yards off the whites – but five par 5s offer birdie chances to the stronger player.
