Chateau des Vigiers

For those looking for something a little bit different for their golf holiday, head for Chateau des Vigiers. This outstanding French resort combines a 16th Century Chateau, 27 holes of golf, its own awardwinning wine and superb gastronomy. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the opening of their golf courses and they are putting on special offers and events throughout the year. They would be delighted if you would join them for the celebrations.

The Château forms the centrepiece of a magnificent 27-hole championship course, designed by the renowned British architect Donald Steel. These 27 holes are made up of three loops of nine – through vineyards, orchards, parkland and woodland.

When asked by Golf World to name his favourite hole from his long career, Steel chose the 18th at Château des Vigiers, with its dog-leg over a ridge for the second shot over the lake on to the green, in front of the Château. The addition of the new nine-hole course in early 2008 has given a wider variety to the golf on offer. The resort’s extensive golf facilities also include a six-hole academy course, golf tuition with their English-speaking resident pro, a covered and open driving range and practice greens. Buggies and clubs can be hired at the well stocked pro-shop The Maria Galland™ Beauty Centre offers professional beauty treatments, as well as a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, outdoor heated swimming pool and fitness centre.

Other leisure pursuits include two tennis courts, fishing and a full size snooker table.

There are two restaurants and one bar; ‘Le Chai’ Brasserie is on a stunning terrace and serves everything from light snacks and salads to full menus including local specialities – duck and Fois Gras. The Gourmet Restaurant ‘Les
Fresques’ offers refined gourmet cuisine and Grand Cru wines of the Bordeaux region. ‘Le Club’ bar serves light lunches and sandwiches on a terrace overlooking the 9th. Château des Vigiers is the perfect base from which to explore the region; the famous towns and attractions such as St Emilion, Sarlat, Lascaux and Bergerac are all within easy reach. Château des Vigiers produces its own award-winning red, white and rosé wine (AOC Bergerac) and can organise private wine tastings at some of the most famous ‘grand cru’ vineyards in the region.
