we went to stoke by nayland at the weekend. I had been trying to get my golf partner to try out the course for over a year i had read quite a bit about it and as we try to play a different course every weekend throughout the summer i eventually got my way. it is  a shame really as the thought was far better than actually playing the course. we arrived and could not get parked as there was a wedding show on and the visitors to the show had taken all of the parking spaces leaving us to use the over flow car park. meaning that  we had to cart our clubs and change of cloths for what seemed an age before we got to the club house. A bit of a cheek i thought as we were paying golfers why not have the wedding show guests walk as they have no equipment to carry. went into the pro shop paid our £50 then had to ask where the 1st tee was. Wewent to the bar and ordered our breakfast, which with coffee cost just short of £20 for 2 for a breakfast which was small  at best, the toast has been shown the grill for about 10 seconds.the staff in the bar were sloppy and didnt seem to want to be there. When we got to the tee there was no marshall only a queue. We eventually teed off 20 mins late, the tees were in poor condition the fairways no better than average and the green shocking for a course of this standing and cost (we have rugularly played courses for under £30 with far superior greens and tees). It is a crying shame because i think that this is one of the prettiest courses i have played. we had to wait for what seemed an age on every tee, the group in front had no intention of letting us through , if there had been a marshall then i am sure that play could have been moved along and players waiting allowed to play through. it is not that i like to rush my golf quite the opposite but it really was slow. All in all, after driving for over an hour to get to the course a really dissapointing day. It would appear that golf has become secondary to corperate entertainment and shows. we didnt even stay to get changed and relax after the game aswe did not want to put the staff out. The members that we met seemed like a pleasant enough bunch and some of the other lads we met whilst on the tees kept us entertained but that really isnt why you go to play a course.   We came off the course totally disselusioned. i would suggest you dont use this course until they change there ways and put golf 1st or at least equal to their other activities.
