Coxmoor Golf Club

What we say

European Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson didn’t look back after joining Coxmoor as a junior member in 1993. In fact, he still represents the club on Tour while both his parents remain proud members. Tee it up at this splendid mature heathland track, a regular Regional Qualifier for the Open, and you won’t look back either.

Right up there with fellow East Midlands heathland heroes Notts and The Lindrick, Coxmoor has plenty of pedigree too: it’s been a regular Open qualifying venue and US Tour player Greg Owen and former Ryder Cupper Oliver Wilson are both honorary members. Make no mistake, a tough par-73 to crack and being about 600ft above sea level is exposed to the winds from the north and east. This classy club celebrated its centenary this year.

Coxmoor Golf Club was founded in 1913 on part of its present site although many improvements have been made over the years. The golf course runs adjacent to Forestry Commision land close to the town of Sutton in Ashfield and is perched  on one of the highest points in the county.

Visitors can experience some scenic views -  from the clubhouse you can see into the Leicestershire Wolds and the Vale of Belvoir while from the 13th tee over Mansfield and on a clear day, Lincoln Minster. One of the club's founder members, the Rev.T.C.Shelmerdine, was club captain in 1913 and 1914.

  • 5 out of 5 Fabulous Course Great Value

    By Tom Golding

I've played here before and boy are they moving forward! Lots of great changes for the better new tees all sorts! Course programme by Ken Brown the BBC one that is looks as though they have lots more to come. Played on a windy cold day but the course was great and in good nick. Great value for money with every hole being different. Tom Golding HC 4.

New greenkeeper fabulous quick greens and in fantastic condition. Apparently lots of changes but top draw stuff. Played notes and sherwood but this was the best and great value. Friendly members, great food at proper prices! Highly recommended. Darren HC 3.

i've played better, but then again I have played a lot worse. It's a pretty enough place and in pretty good nick... and not too costly/... worth a go

Wow! What a great golf course and club. Pro was very accommodating. Club house is traditional and the staff are friendly and helpful. The course is fantastic. Yes, we played in sunny conditions so it helps; but, every hole presented a good test of golf. Fantastic - make a trip, it's worth it!
