Newark Golf Club

What we say

New bunkers and old trees make this a very tricky course. Precise iron play should be rewarded with some decent birdie chances. The greens are among the best in the area and the clubhouse is superb.

Newark has been undergoing a programme of renovation over recent years and the members are delighted. This mix of parkland and heathland has been brought into the modern era and is a terrific, easy-walking venue. The most challenging shot is probably the 1st, where pine trees narrow the fairway at around 260 yards, leaving a 4-iron into the green. Dog-legs and interesting par 5s combine to make this an enjoyable round.

Newark Golf Club was formed in 1901 as a 9 hole course and moved to its current wonderful 18 hole woodland location in 1935.  The course was laid out by Tom Williamson, the well known and very successful course designer.  He was complimented on the way he had blended the natural beauty of the site with efficiency from a playing point of view.  More recently the course has had a superb make over by Creative Golf Design; the team of Ken Moody, Ken Brown and John Nicholson.  This has resulted in a superbly challenging course for golfers of all abilities set in most attractive and very quiet countryside on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.  The level terrain makes for easy walking and visitors are made very welcome.

Once the golf is completed a warm welcome awaits in the pleasant clubhouse; the home of the famous Cow Pie - which must be booked in advance!!

Having played this course 6 times, I'd have to comment that unless your driving is long and straight you'll struggle as there seems to be 400+ yard par 4s in droves. A nice course worth a visit.
