The Warwickshire – Kings Course

What we say

It’s been a case of all change at The Warwickshire Golf Club, which a year ago was the home of four nine-hole layouts (North, South, East & West) which you could play in any combination. Nowadays you’ll find two separate 18-hole courses, regally known as the King’s and Earl’s with the former comprising the old East and South nines. The golf courses are distinctly contrasting with the King’s fairly open and linksy while the Earl’s is a bit longer and runs through woodland so you need accuracy off the tee. There’s a gammit of cracking holes on both layouts with the pick of the crop being the splendid par 4 opener on the Earl’s and the par 4 6th, a left dogleg leading to a sloping green guarded by a ditch, on the same golf course. Whichever option you choose you’re onto a winner though with so much timber and water around, make sure you take plenty of ammunition…

The Warwickshire Golf Club is situated in the middle of 465 flowing acres in the centre of picturesque Warwickshire countryside and one is able to stand and marvel at the majesty of it. What will astonish the first time visitors is the remarkable variety of golf. American Karl Litten designed a distinctive and different character to include: inland links, woodland, Americana, and parkland – it’s all here in one immensely attractive sweep of golfing country. The Warwickshire's two championship golf courses has played host to many professional tournaments including a European Seniors Tour event and the Midland PGA Final on three occasions. The Kings golf course measures 6487 yards while the Earls is longer at 6750. Both are par 72.

  • 3.5 out of 5 let down by greens

    By clay

The Kings is a great test and not easy by any means. But when we played the greens were very poor. They had been treated two weeks before and were impossible to putt on really. It;s a shame because the course design is good and the facilities are great. All courses have to treat their greens and there are certain times of the year when I guess you just have to put u[ with it, but there were massive lines running acrossd every green. Putting acorss them was simply a lottery.

  • 4.5 out of 5 Value for money?Cant be beat!!

On arrival, certainly the wow factor.360degrees and all you can see is golf courses.Staff excellent and polite, especially Ben.A month has past and very little rain, the course was excellent.I am a 1 handicap player and having  played over 300 courses worldwide and spending 6 months a year in Florida, and having been Golf Manager at Letham Grange, with 2fore1 voucher, there is no better value for money ANYWHERE.Yes bunkers could do with a tad more sand, tees are a little uneven and more walking between green and tee than the average course but, fantastic day out, will defo play again, cant recommend enough. As NIKE say....JUST DO IT!!

  • 3 out of 5 abused by member

I booked a 8 ball to celebrate my sons 18th birthday and choose the Warwickshire as i had played there before and enjoyed the experience. As the only member of our group who had played there before i thought it an ideal venue. All the players were impressed by the layout and condition of the course and the fact that it rewarded good shots and punished wayward ones, proper golf. The only down side of the day was when a junior member of our group was abused verbally and threatened with violence by a member of the club.We were not told by this (gentleman) the crime he had committed but we wonder if we had not been there to intervene whether he would have carried out his threat. If some mistake had happened surely a quiet word with one of us would have been appropriate.Good day spoilt.

  • 3.5 out of 5 It's a long 'un!

    By Leo Lionet

Earl's course was in good condition considering the amount of rain that has fallen recently. Some fairways were still quite soggy but the greens and tees were fine. This is a hard slog for the high-handicapper, and the rough is really punishing. Needs good course management. The new clubhouse is excellent and the facilities superb.

  • 2.5 out of 5 Close it when it's wet

    By gareth67

Would be better if they closed the course when really wet so making it much better when the fair weather comes. Over played most of the year, need some TLC

my 4 ball played the kings course after booking online through todays golfer website, excellent price of £15 each,we usually never pay more than £23 at the most ,so this course is probably a much better standard to ones we are used to.A review i have just read has panned the course for its fairways and tees (boggy and muddy),to us there was no problem as in recent weeks our usual courses have been mostly closed due to the heavy rain. Our welcome to the course from the staff in the golf shop was superb and very helpful for first timer,I was expecting the marshaller on the course who kept hovering around us didn't berate us for slow play as i expected as some courses do and the 3 ball members behind us were quite happy to enjoy the excellent weather and watch us lose some balls!we all decided we would like to come back in the summer but only if we could get it cheap again ha ha!!!!!

  • 2 out of 5 Great greens, Very poor tees and fairways and bunkers.

    By Anonymous

I have just played the kings course. The course looks good when you drive up to it but when you start to play it is very poor the Tee’s are mostly mud, the fairways have got very poor drainage so are just bog and the bunkers are a waste of time (Looks and feels like they have been filled with cement) the only good thing about the course is the greens which are very good. I was very disappointed by the course after the game I went into the bar and spoke to one of the members who told me the Earls course was in a terrible state compared to the Kings for drainage (so take your wellys if you want to play that course) and the bunkers are worse. A real shame that a course that looks that good from a distance is let down by poor maintenance, investment and management.

  • 3.5 out of 5 enjoyable and testing

    By Anonymous

A long and testing course. The changed lay out means shorter walks between greens nad the next tee. The new club house is a big improvement. The greens are excellent and the variation of wholes means that your interest levels are kept high. Only down side is the number of divots not replaced on the kings course

Considering the amount of rain the greens are excellent but the fairways are very wet and the rough is well, forget your ball if it goes there because you will be lucky to find it as the ball vanish in the bog. A brilliant course if dry.

  • 3 out of 5 Excellent golfing tests

    By Anonymous

My dad’s a member at The Warwickshire and so I’ve played both the Earls and Kings courses a few times. Both courses are an excellent golfing test for mid to low handicappers, although I wouldn’t recommend these courses to beginners due to their length. The start of the Kings course is particularly testing with 2 par 5s followed by a par 3 with 180 yard carry over lake in front of the clubhouse/terrace. Course is long at 6487 (off yellows) and undulating so you really need to be on your game to score well. Generally greens have been good, although they were poor a couple of times early in the season (I put this down as a one off - I assume they had had work done over the winter on them and were still settling in) I’d definitely recommend playing either of the courses if you are looking for a challenging and picturesque way to spend 4 hours! Since it has become part of the health club it perhaps lacks the atmosphere a true members golf club, but that shouldn’t detract from what is an excellent golf course.

  • 3 out of 5 Play it in the summer

    By Anonymous

As an ex member I have recently gone back to play on the 2 Fore 1 scheme and the course is as difficult as ever particularly in the winter. My only criticism is the addition of the leisure club gives an impersonal feel and the members atmosphere has disappeared. Worth the money though. Play it in the summer if you get the chance!

  • 3 out of 5 I recommend it

    By Anonymous

I'm a member at The Warwickshire and i've got to say the courses are really nice, hard but indeed nice. I recommend this course to anyone.

  • 3 out of 5 A Good Test

    By Anonymous

As a regular player at the Warwickshire i can certainly confirm that both of the courses can be a true test for most golfers particularly the mid to higher handicapper.I particularly find the Earls to be the toughest especially in winter and accuracy is a must, the key being to keep the ball on the fairway, wayward shots can be terminally punished, with good shots being well rewarded. Now the negative bit on my most recent visit i found the staff most miserable, why?, i cannot say,and the club house feel has been lost with the addition of the health and lesiure facility, but the golf is good so give it a try.

  • 3 out of 5 A Real Challenge

    By Anonymous

Have played this course several time before it changed to the two eighteen holers it is now ,(was originally four nines)and I must say that I think the revised layout is a big improvement. Actually a group of us played the 'Kings' four times on this day, yes 72 holes in one day in aid of Macmillan cancer support. The support received from the team at the Warwickshire was second to none. A super location and yes a real challenge.

  • 3 out of 5 Great courses BUT a busy 'corporate' club

    By Anonymous

As a friend of 5 ex members I had opportunity to play both courses several times (in their old format). They are both a great test of golf with some memorable holes. I had seeral great days there and will go back if invited. Be warned though it could get extremely busy with 5 hour plus rounds. Corporate hospitality seems to take priority. The new club house is very soulless and feels more like a health club than a golf club. The 36 holes out and back deserves better.

  • 3 out of 5 Golf is secondary

    By Anonymous

Additon of health club has moved golf into second place at The Warwickshire. Both golf courses are stern tests of golf. If your expecting to get round in under 5 hours then this isn't the place to visit. Staff in the pro shop are unhelpful and course marshalls are rude and serve no purpose as they do nothing to speed play up. Worth a visit on a 2-4-1 but at £50 a round is well over priced

  • 4 out of 5 You must play this course
