Standish Court Golf Club

What we say

Take breathtaking Lancashire countryside, extensive native woodland belts, complemented by scenic views of the Pennines, add 18 holes of golf, nine in parkland, nine in woodland, with strategically positioned bunkers, trees and natural water features.

Mix in an excellent modern clubhouse, run on a friendly and welcoming basis and you have the recipe for Standish Court Golf Club - a modern golf club with a distinctive difference.

The 18 holes of golf, by Tyton Design, provide one of the more intriguing rounds of golf in the region, creating a challenging test of golf for the low handicapper and an enjoyable round for the high handicapper.

The tees and greens have been built to an exacting specification that provides an excellent playing surface all year round, and the golf club's team of greenkeepers utilise the most modern equipment, ensuring that the golf course is extremely well presented.

played here on 26/07/11     What a disgrace, We where greeted by a bloke who only wanted the money, The shop was closed, The only thing he said was take a rake out of the bin and put it in your bag!,    On the first hole we found why we needed a rake, it was for raking the grass off the fairway! Because  there was no sand in the bunkers only soil and stones, The tees where very poor aswell where the greens, we played throu 3 times due to player looking for there balls in the long grass. The coures is set out nice buy need some up keep! if you go take plenty balls you will need the if you go of the fairway due to the long grass.

By far the worst golf course I have stepped foot on. I just played today 19/6/11 and it was the worst maintaned course I had ever seen!! The tees were worn down to bare soil in most places, one was even an old matt located in woods that looked like an old piece of rotted wood. The fairways were not that bad I suppose but needed a moeing. The bunkers and greens were the worst part. The sand was like rock and thats when you could find it because they were all overgrown with weeds. The greens were rock hard and full of sand and dead grass and alot of stones on them. Honestly i'll never ever play here again unless its free and I would not reccomend it to anyone else. This is all a shame because I think the layout is good but they don't look after it and its like playing on local disused land at times.

A funny little course. On paper you should murder it, but somehow you don't. Not my kind of course as you hit irons off most of the tees and then short irons into greens, so you never have to work to hard for your par, apart from the dodgy yardages and occasional poor greens can make it a bit tricky. Being positive, it is probably the right course for a stag-do or non-serious society as the course is very short and the food and beer (Becks on draught) decent.

I have just played this course and found it to be lovelly course well kept and greens a lot of fun. Some very short holes but still teasing. Fairways in good condition, apart from 16th Hole where still boggy. Can not complain and for £10 one of the best course if not the best I have played so far this year.

Basically the course is to short, 4700 yards for 18 holes !!!. Course would appear not to drain well, tees and greens ok, everything else a nightmare. Would not go back.

I can't think of another club I've played that's worse than this. Several par 4s under 300 yards, 3 par 3s around 100 yards. They have managed (every credit) to get 18 holes on land where there is space for 12, which makes it a bit of a shooting gallery of many tees. Poor drainage, bobbling greens and dodgy yardages. Best thing was a bacon and egg barm and Becks on draft in the clubhouse, which is quite modern. Would I play here again? No.

although the bunkers where out of play(a godsend)the course was not to bad,99% of the tees where good, although very muddy around them, and fairways to considering the weather we have had.The greens are in exelent condition i don't how they have kept them so good and quick with all the rain.Like the course would definately play again.

The condition of this course is so bad that I cannot recommend it to anyone. I have played this course a few times and found it to be generally poor. Especially through the winter period. However they continue to allow people to play regardless of the conditions. On my last visit I lost 8 balls in the fairway, this was due to the fairways being about four inches deep in soft mud. It was not just on one or two holes either, it was everywhere. This made the course completely unplayable, and as a full paying visitor, I was not forewarned of the conditions or offered any discount whatsoever. This left me with the overall impression that I had been ripped off. Anyone considering playing here be warned that they would rather take your money than offer you a decent days golf, this is the only possible reason for keeping the course open when it is in this sort of state!! I feel truly angry about the entire affair I sincerely hope that no one else falls foul of these pirates!!!!!!!
