What we say
Difficult to decide which is better – the par 3s or par 4s as both equally tempt and punish. The short holes are superb and with a fine closing stretch, it has plenty to like about it. Not nearly as ‘stuffy’ as its reputation suggests.
The feel and difficulty of another Harry Colt masterpiece can be gauged in the members' mantra: "The key to scoring at Rye are your second shots on the par 3s." Oh, and these recoveries had better be consistently good because there are five devilish short holes to conquer. Quirky, unique and old-fashioned, Rye is the epitome of a quintessential British golf course... and is all the better for it.
If you get the chance to tee it up at Rye golf club, it's like stepping back in time: it's a traditional old seaside venue that many believe to be one of the most eye-catching, memorable and challenging links golf courses around. Legendary scribe Henry Longhurst selected the 4th at Rye as a par 4½ in his perfect course. Rye is also the home of the 18 hole Jubilee layout. Note: Rye is a members and members guests only course.
