Wellshurst Golf & Country Club

What we say

It’s well laid out with just enough fairway and green traps to make you think about your game, but not ruin it. The course is also well maintained. The star hole has to be the 16th, a real risk-reward par-5 over a large water hazard.

Wellshurst golf club opened in 1992 and is situated in 150 acres of countryside offering stunning views over the South Downs. It also boasts outstanding practice facilities including a 16 bay floodlit driving range with two bunker bays.

Wellshurst is maturing nicely since its opening in the mid nineties and £24 for a weekend visitor represents excellent value. There are still plenty of staked trees in places but the fairways and greens are as good as you find at far more pricey venues. Except for the 11th, the course is not particularly demanding or long. However, several risk/reward holes offer plenty to think about, especially if the wind is blowing. My only criticism of the course is that the last two holes – a 240-yard Par 4 and short, uphill Par 3 - are a disappointingly bland end to an otherwise highly enjoyable course. That said, the layout is rather irregular in places and first-time visitors should pay careful attention to the signs throughout the course to avoid playing the wrong hole. The off-course facilities are adequate rather than spectacular although the staff in the (recently refurbished) pro shop were very friendly and helpful. The members we encountered were equally welcoming, even going out of their way to return a pitching wedge carelessly left behind by my brother! A highly enjoyable venue, definitely worth a visit.
