Lanhydrock Hotel & Golf Club

What we say

Something of a hidden gem tucked a short drive away from the busy A30 and Bodmin, Lanhydrock layout opened just over 20 years ago but looks as though it’s been around forever. Flanked by ancient timber in a sheltered wooded valley, you can’t afford to spray it around too much. Nowadays it’s overlooked by a smart 43-room hotel. Lanhydrock is an outstanding place to stay and play being the home of a fine, fast maturing parkland layout overlooked by a smart hotel and clubhouse.

Lanhydrock is located in a sheltered wooded valley in central Cornwall. It  opened in 1991 and has been owned and run by the Bond family, who set the ball rolling at nearby St Mellion, since 1993. Tranquil Lanhydrock is a relaxing place to play the game and as a result is one of the most popular courses in Cornwall.

Stay & Play: There's a 46 room hotel on site.

Despite this being a fairly local course to me, I have only just got round to playing it.  I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed my round and the course seems to strike a nice balance with a bit of everything involved. The actual club house/hotel reception is very nice and seems to be well run for those staying here.  The club shop whilst small, has most of what you might need to stock up on for your round.  And the restaurant is excellent with lovely food and thank goodness, proper cappucino (not just the frothed up milky muck that seems to be classed as cappucino by the major chains these days). The course starts with what at first glance of the scorecard appears to be a relatively simple par 4 of about 280 or so yards, that is until you look at the course plan and see the pond in front of the green.  For me its right where I would put my driver so it requires a hybrid / pitch to the green, and this sets the tone for most of the round.  Second hole leaves you thinking "do I try to skirt the trees?", and so on... Its the kind of course that if you are playing straight it allows you to attack it and be rewarded with a nice score.  Also if you do stray (as I frequently did), its not always the end of the world and you can recover.  The greens were fine and the condition of the course in general was very good.  Favourite hole? Hard to say but I enjoyed the holes where water came into play as that doesnt happen on my "home" course. Overall I would recommend it.
