Meyrick Park

You’ll find magical Meyrick slap bang in the middle of popular seaside resort Bournemouth and, make no mistake, this is a great test of parkland golf from the moment you tee it up on the demanding 244-yards par-3 opener.  And, being so close to the coast, the wind is often a factor and needs to be carefully considered.

Your tee shot should favour the left side of the green to avoid the trees sheltering the right side of the hole. You can open your shoulders for the next couple of holes before the course begins to narrow again, winding like a snake with tricky doglegs to catch you out. You’ll need your A-game to score well here, as heather, dense woodland and slopey fairway lies are standard practice. Great fun, and a great test.

  Two things may get this course overlooked by most 1 Par 68 2 the word Municipal do not fall for thinking this is a rough house council owned hackers track, it is far from that. Green Fees are fantastic value, the walk is spectacular beauty, the golf can be some of the most memorable of the season. Just walking on to the first tee lets yo know what you are in for. 244 yards, over a valley,  a small green kept company by trees on the right, trouble behind, steep bank on the left. You will not get too much change out of a dozen balls if you tihink you can step on here and smash it round, A tight course that demands accuracy, or your next shot will be a nightmare. Ok so with it being Municipal theres the odd dog walker but the course more than makes up for it, the Greens are amongst the best in Dorset and the layout will challenge any level of golfer, and have you wanting to play the course again and again. The course is summed up by the jaw dropping beauty of the 14th, stand on that tee picture perfect tee and plan your drive, its an awesome sight.  A must play if you are visiting Bournemouth/Poole on a golfing holiday, or even if you are an hours drive away

  I grew up playing this course and have only just got back to playing some serious golf now that my footballing days have ended. Having played it twice this year I would recommend this course to anyone. From the imposing first, a much written about, 244 yard par three from the white tees, to the testing last four, all par fours that require accuracy off the tee. In between, scenic views from many of the tees, such as the relatively short but meandering 460 yard par five 14th, where the fairway narrows to a raised green after your initial tee shot. Fine scores will be found by those hitting the ball accurately with their irons. Good course management is a pre-requisite as the course holds a number of short dog-legs and relatively narrow driving holes. If you are wayward of the tee, bring plenty of balls, and I dare say that your driver may be best left in the boot of your car.

  As my first weekend away playing golf I found this to be a great place to go. The course was mostly in tip top condition with only two temporary greens in play. Ideally suited to high and low handicappers (my group had from 28 to 7 included).
