Parkstone Golf Club

Last Updated:

What we say

Don't be fooled by the relatively short length of Parkstone. With tight rolling fairways, heavily protected by heather and tall pines, a low score will only be on the cards for the accurate player. Tricky pot bunkers surround most greens and a few tiered greens with subtle undulations can make three-putting a common occurrence. A memorable round unusually finishes with a demanding par 3. Oh, nearly forgot: you'll also be knocked out by the breathtaking views across Poole harbour.

The original golf course, at The Parkstone Golf Club, was designed in 1909 by Willie Park jnr, twice Open champion in the 1880s, and was very different to the current layout which was considerably lengthened and re-designed by James Braid in 1937.

Additional acreage was obtained by buying bogland from Lord Arlington and reclaiming it to form the present 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th holes. As recently as 1996, English Nature designated the course a site of Special Scientific Interest as part of the wider South Dorset Heathland Project.

Stay & Play: The Harbour Heights, The Salterns and the Parkstone Hotel.
