What we say
Founded as a nine-holer in 1908, it’s less than 6,000 yards long, but you’ll be knocked out by the superb views across Poole Harbour, Purbeck Hills and Wareham Forest.
Wareham is an established heathland golf course situated on the edge of Wareham Forest and just north of the historic town of Wareham.
Although less than 6000 yards, Wareham is a challenging and enjoyable golf course. The golf course offers superb views across Poole Harbour, the Purbeck Hills and Wareham Forest.
The golf club was founded in 1908 and was originally a nine-hole golf course but over the years was significantly extended to provide the mature 18-hole golf course it is now.

When we arrived we found an immediate very friendly reception by all the members and management. One member without asking giving me his course guide (thank you whever you were). Although it had been raining all night the course wasn't really that wet .. although you had to repair ginormous divots made by your ball on the greens .. the rain had made them very soft. There were some nice holes .. not too difficult really but quite enjoyable. We'll surely come back on our next visit to England. I heard afterwards that there is only one greenkeeper for the course .. so I have to congratulate him on his work. My home club in Holland has 6 and the course is in no better (probably worse) condition. Just one funny thing .. the ladies red tee on hole 11 is longer than the mens yellow and in a more difficult position .. (got a birdie on that one :) ) Read comments about tight holes ... you should come to my home course Brunssummerheide for some tight holes :) Shot an 88 (handicap 16.8) on a wet course so left quite happy with the score too. See you next time we're over.
Had a round while on holiday in May - ideal if you're visiting. Played in the afternoon - no need to book a tee time. It's a good old fashioned club - cheap to play, nice small clubhouse, and a varied course. The old part of the course is pretty tight and playing the first time it is often hit and hope. But use a bit of brain, and then move onto the newer part of the course which is more uphill and downhill and thus a different proposition. It was in good nick, and cheap as chips - a thoroughly enjoyable round.
First impressions of Wareham Golf Course are some what dubious but once out onto the first tee all doubts disapear. The course is kept in a very good condition all through the year and although a small municipal club, the greens are to be envied by some of the nearby bigger clubs in the area. The 3rd, 5th and 6th holes are a bit tight as they cross over each other a bit but this does not hamper your enjoyment of the course. Once you've got through these holes, the course opens out onto a gorgeous setting of rolling heathland with great views of Poole quay in the distance. Don't be fooled by the shortness of the course as it does have some tricky and quite cheeky holes to conquer! I'd certainly recommend playing there if your in the area, I think you'll be pleasently suprised.
