New Forest Golf Club

What we say

A par-69 layout plotted in Lyndhurst in the heart of the forest, but only six miles from Southampton. The course has been around since the late 1880s and is overlooked by a modern clubhouse with good facilities.

The New Forest Golf Club is a very picturesque heathland golf course situated at Lyndhurst in the heart of the forest, but only 6 miles from Southampton.

It began its history in the latter part of 1888, when a meeting of residents in and around Lyndhurst was called to try to obtain the ‘Commissioners of Woods and Forests’ the right to play golf on the open heath.

Today, there is a fine testing 18-hole golf course, a more recent Clubhouse with all amenities, a healthy membership and a most popular venue for visitors.

Booking a Tee time was a pleasure and the good feel factor continued on arrival and throughout the round. The course is open heathland with ponies and small flowers over the fairways, but not a problem. the ponies were roamong free but were niether a distraction nor a hindrance. The long holes were forgiving and parable but the main featureas of the course were the par three holes, which were a real challenge. These greens were narrow, and accurate tee shots were essential. The greens overall were pacey and smooth. Local rules took full account of the ponies, and all of the New Forest regulations. The weather was good and it was one of the most pleasant days of golf I have experienced.
