What we say

A great heathland layout with lots of gorse, fine turf and great greens. This short but demanding old-fashioned layout – opened in 1922 – provides an enjoyable experience. Say your prayers at the par-3 7th – the raised green is guarded by a steep bank running down to a pond, reputed to be a Holy Well.

Short and sweet… and highly challenging. Forget the fact it’s a shade under 6,000 yards, this classic heathland will test every bit of your game. Admittedly, the front nine is relatively open, but the back nine is a different story with slender fairways and plenty of gorse and broom to negotiate. Plotted on a hillside, the wind factor is another consideration at Tadmarton.

As a course it has what may conveniently be descibed as a split personality, the first nine holes being fairly open and the second nine possessing a charateristic commonly associated with heathland golf - a profusion of gorse which makes some of the fairways alarmingly narrow. Even though it is a short course, in winds that never miss those exposed parts, it frequently must seem to play about twice its normal length.
