What we say
Although it starts fairly gently, there are some fantastic holes in the middle. The clubhouse is quite impressive - traditional with no frills. The star hole is the 6th. You're hitting a blind drive with OB down the left. The shot into the elevated green is not easy.
In 1953, links virgin Ben Hogan used Panmure to get himself primed for the Open at Carnoustie.
He even mowed the 17th green himself for fast-green putting practice, before cleaning the mower and returning it to the greenkeeper.
Panmure, remodelled by Braid in 1922, is a top-class links that has hosted many top events including the first ever Scottish Professional Championship in 1907, and is a qualifying golf course for the 2007 Open.
