Gailes Links

What we say

A really good links course. Plenty of challenges and some really strong holes. A great choice by the R&A.

Gailes Links is owned by Glasgow Golf Club, the ninth oldest club in the world and has plenty to offer. A solid test of golf with a series of opening tough par-4s that demand both length and accuracy. Gailes Links is sole Scottish host of final Open qualifying on behalf of the R&A until 2017.

As 2014 comes to a close and the country looks back on another memorable year in its long sporting heritage, the Winter season gets into full swing at Gailes Links on Scotland’s Ayrshire coast. That’s one of the great benefits of the course that was chosen by the R&A to be Scotland’s only final Open qualifying course until 2017; the fact that it can be played during winter months in conditions that are the envy of other clubs throughout the land. The mild winter weather, combined with an almost totally fog free environment ensures that a steady stream of players are able to enjoy these famous golf links all year round.

But even as the members at Gailes Links look towards another full Winter season they will be casting a weather eye to next summer when they host final Open qualifying again, on behalf of the R&A.

The summer of 2014 saw the first of a four year consecutive playing of final Open qualifying at Gailes Links and large crowds turned out to support the players competing for the 3 precious starting spots in the Open at Hoylake, and already the planning has begun for next years qualifying. There is no downtime for a Club that has to satisfy the expectations of the members, visitors and the R&A, but the experienced staff take it all in their stride, and regardless of when you visit Gailes Links you will enjoy the course and the warm Clubhouse welcome you receive in equal measures.

Gailes Links has worked hard to attain preferred status with the R&A and they are delighted to share their Championship links with visiting golfers from all over the world all year round. That’s the thing about Gailes Links; the golf never stops.

  • 5 out of 5 An Open Gem

It is easy to see why Gailes Links is rated so highly by the R&A. Golf's leading authority does not dish out accolades lightly so when they award you sole final Open qualifying in Scotland for 4 consecutive years you know you must be doing something right. The course is classic links and Sandy Lyle has described Gailes Links as 'One of the Worlds truly great tests of links golf'. Lovely old sandstone clubhouse with superb facilities, food and drink. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Looks quite straightforward, but it isn't. It's tight and tricky and you really have to think. Hard as nails...
