Troon Municipal Golf Course (Fullarton Course)

Last Updated:

What we say

The Fullarton may be well under 5,000 yards but underestimate it at your peril. You can't afford to be too wayward otherwise you've no chance of finding either the tight, rolling fairways or the tiny greens.

More Top 2-FORE!-1 links courses

At less than 5,000 yards, this course is for those who relish the short game. Despite it's yardage, underestimating this course is a mistake with it's narrow fairways and small greens.

Protected by heather and gorse, any wayward shots will be punished so this is definitely a course than favours the more finesse player.

  • 4 out of 5 Short but great fun

As another said to me the other day "this is supposed to be the easy course!". Of the three courses at Troon Municipal golf, this is the shortest and in theory the easiest. As long as you keep your tee shots on the fairway you won't find it too challenging- especially as there are a number of sub 300 yard par 4s. However, the heather in the rough is unforgiving! I don't know how many balls I have lost after battling a driver slice all season this year! If it is quiet you can get round in 2 1/2 hours so it is a course you can enjoy without having to give the entire day to golf. As it is proper sandy soil links it is excellent in even the worst weather. I have played there a few times this week- in the middle of November- and had no problems with water on the course. I haven't played its big brother Lochgreen (a LOT longer) so can't compare but I can say that I enjoy the Fullarton a lot more than the Darley which is hard as nails. (If you play the Darley, take a lot of balls!).

excellent condition both fairways and greens. If you stray into the rough then you are in trouble.

  • 4 out of 5 Punching Above Its Weight!

I had heard numerous good stories regarding both Darley and Lochgreen before playing the courses. Needless to say - I was not disappointed! We are very fortunate to have such a variety of Top Class golf courses on the west coast of Scotland and Lochgreen is one which can stand tall with its more illustrious neighbours. A traditional links golf course in most part it also has a more parkland layout just after the turn for three holes. It is a Par 74 - 6785 yds. Like most links the course changes every time you play it depending on the weather conditions. I played it in a calm few days and it played relatively easy compared to how it can play. A long course it has quite a few Par 5's which can make scoring a little bit easier if hitting well off the tee. However, it can quickly bite you if not on your game. The overall condition of the course is excellent. The greens run true and firm, the fairways are immaculate and the tees are flat and varied. Value for money is utmost and Lochgreen is as good as it gets. The staff are friendly and there are a choice of bars which offer some good honest pub grub. I would highly recommend a round of golf at Lochgreen. Fantastic!
