The last course five-time Open champion James Braid designed, this hillside course is a great test of golf with views of Ailsa Craig and Arran.

This parkland golf course running through the hills is rarely affected by bad weather due to it's location on the coast. A great visit all year round.

Your Reviews

  • 4 out of 5 Wonderful course, slightly grumpy welcome but improved!

    By Charles Sandilands

In fairness we were early and it was his lunch time so the steward ignored us at first and was then a bit grumpy but he redeemed himself by giving us the cheap rate although we were early. The course itself is terrific, especially the 5th hole with it's elevated tee and and Lock Ryan on the right. As other reviews have said, it's wonderfully manicured with excellent greens. The head covers make a very nice souvenir (only £15 each).

  • 4 out of 5 Do not miss it

When I first saw this course driving along the A718 I wanted to play it, and I was not disapointed. From start to finish we were made to feel very welcome. The very nice lady in the secretarys office took time out to take us outside and point out the route and some of the hazards of the course before we played. The course itself is beautifully laid out and manicured and a pleasure to play. This does not mean it is an easy course by any stretch of the imagination but it is not contrived like some of the newer courses. You have to be very careful on some of the holes, basically if your off line you will be punished. Look out for the fifth its spectacular
