Anstruther Golf Club

What we say

It may lack the quality and pedigree of the nearby historic links, including of course the Home of Golf of St Andrews, but this little par-31 belter will test you every inch of its 2,175 yards.

Anstruther majestically stretches along the Fife coastline but you can’t afford to get too distracted by the breathtaking views. That certainly applies to the 200-yards plus par-3 5th, known as The Rockies, and surely one of the most demanding short holes in golf. It’s played to a narrow raised green which tantalisingly slopes towards the sea. Achieve par and you’ll walk to the next tee a very relieved golfer!

The course isn’t all about one hole though: Anstruther boasts a challenging mix of par-3s and 4s and, as a result and elements permitting, there’s every chance you’ll want to tee it up and do it all over again.

A small nine-hole course with it's own version of Amen Corner, Anstruther Golf Club is only nine miles south of St Andrews and boasts spectacular views over Anstruther Harbour and out to the Isle of May.

Anstruther's version of Amen Corner includes the par-3 5th hole 'The Rockies', which was voted the toughest par-3 in the UK. At 245-yards it is possible to reach in one but with danger all around and the green sloping towards the sea, it is safer to play the hole as a par-4 and come away with a four, or a three if you're lucky.

stayed in anstruther last september and was looking forward to playing this course after hearing about and seeing pictures of the hardest par 3 in the uk, apart from that one hole the rest are pretty rubbish, expensive also at £28 for 18 holes, The 9 hole course at Elie is a much better value, or charleton a little further away.

I saw a picture of Anstruther GC in Todays Golfer a time ago. I was thrilled to play this seaside course. Even being a 9-hole course, it is a hidden gem. Play it!!! It has the hardest Par-3 in Britain, voted by the readers of TG, and it is really a tester!!
