Fairmont St Andrews (Torrance Course)

Last Updated:

What we say

The Torrance is now firing on all cylinders after a recent multi-million pound refurbishment which involved re-designing several holes while all 63 bunkers were rebuilt. In addition a new irrigation system and major drainage works have now made the dramatic clifftop course, which overlooks the Old Grey Toon of St Andrews, playable in all but the nastiest of weathers. The new-look layout proved a big hit with players in last year’s Open Championship qualifier and Scottish Senior Open.

A great spot to base yourself for a visit to the Home of Golf – whatever time of the year. Boasting two outstanding 18-hole clifftop layouts backdropped by the Old Grey Toon and overlooked by a luxury hotel, what more can you ask for? The par-72 Torrance and Devlin courses offer intriguing, contrasting tests and afterwards you can unwind, or warm up even, in the superb clifftop clubhouse or the plush hotel itself.

The Torrance Course, designed by the late Gene Sarazen and winning Ryder Cup Captain, Sam Torrance, is a par 72, 7037 yard golf course that sweeps its way around the hotel and down to the coastal edge.

Redesigned in 2009, it is a final Qualifying course for the Open and has held the Scottish Senior Open. The redesign saw eight of the course's holes changed and now offers a fairer test, including several risk-reward holes.

The natural contours of the land and the dramatic coastal setting are combined with a unique blend of Rye grass, innovative green-keeping skills and the expertise of winning Ryder Cup captain, Sam Torrance.

You will not be disappointed if you drive out of St Amdrews to play the Torrance or the Kittocks at St Andrew's Bay. Two outstanding courses lie in wait to test golfers of all abilities and from the moment you set eyes on the breathtaking views an unforgettable experience lies ahead. The courses are set out beautifully and combine  lush fairways, large, pacy greens and  tees to suit everyone - the enormous and fiendishly difficult bunkers are optional extras! Facilities on site include a well-stocked pro-shop, comfortable locker rooms and a clubhouse which serves delicious snacks and meals with probably the best view in the country. To fully benefit from your visit, take advantage of the Fairmount Hotel which is only yards from the clubhouse. The welcome here is unforgettable and the accomodation is matched only by the quality of the restaurant ensuring you are relaxed and ready for the golfing challenge. We will be back!
