Kingsknowe Golf Club

What we say

Situated to the west of Edinburgh, Kingsknowe golf club is within easy reach of all Scotland via the Edinburgh City Bypass. Originally designed by Alec Herd, the 1902 Open champion, the course was later redesigned by James Braid.

The parkland course is laid out over and through the valleys of gently rolling hills on which Oliver Cromwells army gathered to bombard Redhall Castle in 1650.

The hills now define the picturesque cherry tree-lined fairways from which the mindful golfer must propel his ball to the well-guarded and relatively small greens.
The golf course comprises several tough dogleg par fours throughout with the feature hole being the 460-yard par four 16th.

  • 4 out of 5 Superbly laid out parkland course!

This is among my top three courses in Edinburgh along with Braid Hills and Liberton.  It's a standard length parkland course but it weaves up, down and around much more than normal making it's a very nice walk with some spectacular tee shots.  It also means that it's you're not driving well you'll be left with a tricky 2nd shot. It uses the drop ball system rather than tee booking times which is annoying for me.  But it's well worth a visit every now and again.
