Gleneagles, Queens Course

Last Updated:

What we say

It’s no wonder that the Queen’s is the members’ favourite of the three courses at Gleneagles. It lacks the intimidation factor of its two superstar neighbours – the King’s and the PGA Centenery – but it’s in just as good condition (immaculate), and it manoeuvres majestically through an idyllic, breathtaking setting that will simply blow you away.

If you enjoy playing par-3s, and lets face it who doesn’t, you’ll be in your element on the Queen’s, which has a collection of the very best you’ll find and play anywhere in the UK. The par-3 14th is arguably the pick of the bunch, but the other quartet are not too far behind, including the 2nd: it may only be 130 yards off the daily tees, but you will need to thread your tee shot through the eye of a needle to find a green that sits precariously atop a hillock, and is well protected by some serious pot bunkers. Miss the dancefloor and you’re in deep trouble.

The natural beauty of the Queen's Course inspires the world's most experienced players. The Queen's Course, in its long history, has played host to some of the world's golfing greats.

The beautiful settings and the challenge of the golf have attracted such top golfers as Johnny Miller, Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Tom Watson, and Lee Trevino, as well as great names from the entertainment and sports worlds including Sean Connery, Burt Lancaster, Bing Crosby, Jackie Stewart, and astronaut Alan Shepard (the only man to hit a golf shot on the moon).

At 3,192 yards long, the challenge of the first nine can be deceptive, with even some of the best players finding it a test to make par into a fresh south westerly breeze.

Do not be lulled into a sense of false security as you stand on the first tee. The "Trystin' Tree," or lover's meeting place, after which the hole is named, is a challenging opener. The ground falls away at your feet, the fairway swings round to the left and slopes towards the trees, and there are a couple of cunningly placed bunkers testing your approach into the minuscule green.

From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave (and you wont want too) this is an experience that will wow you to the CORE! The Queens course is the shortest of the courses at Gleneagles but each hole is memorable and has its own challenge - and the par 3 14th could leave you with nightmares for a long time to come. Please go and enjoy as it is amongst the best courses I have ever played.

The sister course to the Kings and PGA but by no means a lesser course. This is the best course out of the three.
