Machynys Peninsula Golf Club

What we say

Stunning Jack Nicklaus course overlooking Carmarthen Bay and featuring USGA-spec tees and greens and water features galore. It’s always in superb condition and hasn’t looked back since opening in a blaze of glory in 2005 – it has already hosted an unprecedented eight championships with more almost certainly to follow.

Golfing experience of Machynys Peninsula Golf Club: Virtually within weeks of opening in the summer of 2005, Machynys was staging the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe. The shaping of the £3.5m golf course layout included the creation of 25 acres of new lakes - salt and fresh water - 12 miles of irrigation pipes and six miles of drainage pipes, to ensure the golf course is in top condition all year round. It was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus whose son Gary oversaw the project on behalf of his dad.

Accommodation: The Stradey Park Hotel in Llanelli is just five minutes away and in Swansea there’s the Dragon and Morgan hotels.

  • 4.5 out of 5 Fantastic for £22.50

    By Ash3578

Hi All I just want to say that I played the course the other day and for a winter special of £22.50 a round including Tea/ Coffee before the round & a Bar meal, I thought it was excellent value. There is a £5 supplement on the weekends. The welcome from the staff in the Club house and the New Golf Academy is always fantastic. Rain, Shine & Gale the course is always in a tip top condition. The only thing that is letting them down is the Bunkers, they could be raked more often. I will be back as the Golf is great and the Treacle sponge is Yummy... Hope you all enjoy your round at the Machynys.   Ash

  • 3 out of 5 Delusions of grandeur

    By iwan93

Despite having many positive points (the back 9 ) I just get the feeling that this course is trying to be something its not. It was quite expensive to play and in reality I would have expected more . It was much cheaper to play Celtic Manor and in all honesty there is no comparison between the two. The first 9 holes are somewhat mundane although it must be said the greens are excellent and run true, bunkers however were in poor condition and I heard numerous golfers complaining, it was obvious that they hadnt been raked for days. The second 9 however are excellent and a delight to play, water really comes into play and its great fun to plot your way around. There are some excellent facilities on the course , such as driving ranges, pitching areas etc but despite this i felt that it was overpriced and would not rush to come back here, they really need to drop their prices and allow 2fore 1 vouchers in order to encourage golfers here. You get the impression by putting prices up that this will give an air of exclusitivity, I just felt a little cheated, A sense of arrogance from the club may be a little harsh but they need to travel an hour down the road and learn from Celtic Manor who really know what the customer wants. Must try harder

Worth the trek from Bristol. Really enjoyable course. Not keen on the corporate style club house/bar/restaurant though which has no soul.
