The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Course

What we say

The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Course is a really difficult test of golf and has a blinding finish – a par 3 over water with a backdrop of the wonderful old building which was the stately home of ‘Rolls’ of Rolls-Royce fame.

The Rolls of Monmouth Golf Course opened in 1982 and the golf club was once represented on Tour by a young, up-and-coming Aussie named Greg Norman. The golf course is designed in two halves which are separated by a large wooded hill area.

Accommodation: On site there’s a cottage which sleeps up to eight people and a couple of good local B&Bs are Pen-y-lan Farm (tel. 01600 716435) and Hendre Farmhouse (tel. 01600 740484).

  • 3 out of 5 Nice Parkland

    By gslack

Nice course although a little inaccessable. Beautiful setting. Greens were fabulous, tees a little chopped up. We had to play off the yellows which made it an easy society preferred layout. Wide, wide fairways, not much rough and fairly short means you should play to or be better than your handicap. Disappointed that there's very little Rolls 'history'. Funny old bar has a couple of trophies and pictures and that's about it. Good value and worth a knock and you don't have to be on your 'A' game to record a great score.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Well worth a visit.

Played with a society with a wide range of h'caps, all thoroughly enjoyed it. Lovely lay-out, tough but fair holes, the par 5's really make you think.

  • 4 out of 5 Hard to find many places better

We play this the first Saturday of most Augusts. Buy a day ticket and enjoy one of the best courses around that won't need a new mortgage. From deer wandering the course to immaculate greens, most holes offer a stiff challenge, with water on the 13th and 18th testing you in front of all your friends and foes alike. Bargain - play it.

Have played this course annually for the last 5 years, a truly great course and setting, its always is top condition - play it if you get the chance. Stayed in the cottage last visit and the breakfast was superb.

I had never heard of this course before playing it........but what a pleasant surprize !! played with 11 other friends on a golfing trip and loved. Up there with some of the best parkland courses i have played. A1 condition from tee to green, and what a finish a great par 3 with a 180 yard carry over water highly recommended !!
