Benamor Golf Course

What we say

Sir Henry Cotton played a leading role in the creation of Benamor Golf Course which is close to Tavira and set amid olive, cork, carob and almond groves on the lower slopes of the Barrocal hills. It’s just over 6,000 yards and a par 71 with plenty of bunkers and water to negotiate.

Benamor Golf Course, designed by Sir Henry Cotton, was the first to open for play in the Eastern Algarve in March 2000. When Sir Henry first visited the site in 1986, the old church inspired him - now it's the location for the clubhouse!

Your Reviews

  • 2.5 out of 5 poor greens

    By simonp

There are definitely better courses on the algarve but if you want a cheap extra round this is a decent place to play. As it's easier it makes you feel better about your game after a few gruellers but the tees and greens when we visited were poor. Fairways were fine and some holes were nice but just nothing outstanding.

  • 3 out of 5 Disappointing return

    By Anonymous

I played this course 18 months ago & it appered quite new. I returned in November 2006 expecting the course to have matured but was disappointed to find it had not, besides an extra water hazard it was much the same. Beyond the semi-rough much of the course was covered in thick clover, I only strayed their a few times but finding the ball in it is a lottery. The course has good potential - needs further investment.

  • 4 out of 5 Great Golf

Dont be fooled by the length of this course because if you treat it with contempt you will get what you deserve- bogey golf. Accuracy and good putting will give you a good score. The tees and greens are as good as anywhere on the Algarve and that together with superb facilities make this course a pleasure to play. You will receive a warm welcome and wont have to endure the agony of a 5 hour round like you do in the more popular areas

  • 2.5 out of 5 Frustrating

Have played the course half a dozen times and it always beats me. 3 uphill holes with no obvious routes from tee to green wreck the card.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Very English

An english club type of club, but in portugal!

  • 3.5 out of 5 Friendly staff

  • 2.5 out of 5 There are better courses

Bit short - couple of par 4s under 300yds. Ok for holiday golf but there are better courses at better value.
