Concra Wood Golf Club

After relocation and extension, Concra Wood Golf Club is in the best shape of its life.

Located in Castleblayney and designed by Christy O’Connor Snr and Jnr, Lake Muckno comes in to play frequently on the young parkland course at Concra Wood Golf Club. 

Holes have been routed smartly over a surprisingly hilly site to take impressive advantage of a fabulous site.

Formerly known as Castleblayney – a nine-hole club founded in 1905 and reborn in the mid 1980s after fizzling out after World War Two – Concra Wood was extended and relocated in 2008 after the purchase of 240 acres of idyllic wooded land that slopes down to Lough Muckno. 

The lake (lough in gaelic) – which incorporates several small islands – and the course are, as you would expect, predictably spectacular bedfellows with 11 holes luring the golfer to the water’s edge.

The O’Connors must have had terrific fun laying the new track out, producing a memorable course of rare excitement and nervous thrills. 

The views are predictably a key part of its charm – the Monaghan Drumlins to the Cooley and Mourne Mountains to the east, and the Slieve Gullion and Mullyash Mountains to the north. 

The second shot to the 10th is spectacular hitting down to the green from an elevated fairway, while the 12th, 13th and 15th all bring the lake right in to play and will test your nerves.
