Alcaidesa Links Golf Course

Last Updated:

What we say

If you want really spectacular views, head west towards Gibraltar and play Alcaidesa Links Golf Course. It’s not a true links, with dense hedges replacing sand dunes, but it is by the sea and offers amazing views over the Rock and North Africa.

Alcaidesa Links Golf Course may not be as well known as neighbours San Roque and Valderrama but its location – on the coast and with great views to the Rock of Gibraltar and the north African coast – makes it the most scenic. Designed by Peter Allliss and Clive Clark, Alcaidesa's layout uses the impressive dunes to give a linksy feel. Landing areas and greens are relatively generous, making this a playable course for all standards – and a good place to kick off a golf holiday. The golf course opened in 1992 and hosted the junior Ryder Cup in 1997.

This course is great! if you like Links golf then this is a must! The views from the 4th tee are quite simply unbelievable! We played on a Saturday and it was like playing 'Millionaires golf'! Great variation of holes both short and long but course management a must if you are to score well! The breeze at the top of the course intimidates but strangely subdues as you descend to the coastal holes! Very impressive facilities and has the wow factor! Not the cheapest of courses and a buggy a must butthe feedback from our party of 16 golfers (handicaps 3-27) was that it is a 'must' for next year!

  • 3.5 out of 5 good course, stunning views

I live overlooking the course so am a bit biased. Stunning views, particularly the coastal holes from 5th to 13th. Course is challenging, tight in places, and particularly difficult when the wind blows so take plenty of balls. New clubhouse and facilities are excellent with new driving range, chipping and bunker practice area and large putting green all with great views. Greens are good but course is let down slightly by teeing areas, with are ropey and not always flat and a couple of fairways, particularly the 9th which is rough in places. The second course the 'Heathland' is longer, a real challenge but not really mature enough yet but also worth playing Overall a great course and well worth playing if you are on a golfing holiday

Lovely course, very long with spectactular views of the coast. Has a real links feel to it with wide open fairways tricky undulating greens, a buggy is mandatory and when the wind is blowing some of the holes are monsters
