Santa Maria Golf & Country Club

What we say

Santa Maria Golf & Country Club was designed by Antonio Garrido and opened in 1991. Its front nine is tight and tricky, but the open fairways of the back side finally give you the chance to get the driver out. The golf course pays great attention to detail, with good maintenance and a waterfall by the 11th green. It does, though, straddle the 340 toll motorway.

  • 3 out of 5 HSSGC 2009 Day 1

This course is a good confidence booster for the higher handicappers! The holes are not particularly difficult and most golfers of all levels should achieve their handicaps as the course is not long! The greens were in poor condition with a lot of pitchmarks left unrepaired and the fairways were generally sodden. For the price it represents reasonable value for money but it lacking any wow factor! Would I recommend it...yes, to get evrybodies confidence up! Would I play again...no! Cheap & cheerful but better value elsewhere!

  • 3.5 out of 5 A welcome break for the higher handicaper

The length and more forgiving nature of the course makes this a course to consider if you group includes higher handicap players as it gives them a change to score even if the are not right on their game. Course in good nick but clubhouse looking a little tired.

A good course with some tough holes, its well worth playing. We paid 180 Euros in October for a two ball plus buggy and it was worth the money. The course was in good condition with quite a bit of water on it.

  • 4 out of 5 Excellent Course

Have played this course each summer for the last four years and still rate it as my favourite course on the Costa Del Sol. Shorter than some but always in great condition with spectacular views. Favours course managers than big hitters but a great test of golf for all abilities. Good clubhouse and facilities, which have expanded over the years - nothing better than enjoying a post round beer overlooking the first tee and the eighteenth green.

  • 3 out of 5 Excellent Golf Test

Excellent course a good test for all abilities though not over long. The 1st hole a nice start with water to carry (130 yds plus) gets rid of the hangover quickly. The fairways & greens were in excellent condition with putting a premium you can score well on the reasonably fast greens. Though I would recommend you use buggies un-like us (great walk with nice views but hard on the legs).

Far from the best course in the Costa Del Sol, but reasonably priced and often available for a ‘walk-on’, even in peak months, so all in all, not a bad little option. The course is fair and well-maintained and is rather hilly, so I don’t think I’d fancy it without a buggy. The views from the top half of the course down on to the Mediterranean are stunning – some of the best on this Costa. Just one thing to watch out for – If you can’t make up a fourball, beware of being grouped with Fritz, the ubiquitous East European hacker who has never held a club before. I’ve experienced this on two occasions at Santa Maria and while I don’t object in the slightest to playing with people I don’t know, I do expect to be grouped with ‘golfers’ that know how to hold a club! Would I play here again? Yes, definitely, but not with Fritz as a partner!

Well maintained course with spectacular views. Not overly long but a great test of golf requiring good course management skills. Friendly clubhouse
