PGA National’s courses split opinion among the panel rather in the manner of the three golfers in the mix for the 2011 Sports Personality of the Year award. The links courses might be the Luke Donald of the trio, ending up in a position which perhaps seems harsh given it really is a superb modern ‘inland links’. Phillips doesn’t really create poor courses and, with an especially good set of short holes, its position in the Top 50 Golf Courses in Europe is the least it deserves.
