What we say
The golf course meanders through gently undulating parkland with the fast-running fairways lined by firs and oak trees to give it a deserved reputation as one of Essex's best golf courses. The greatest threat comes in the form of tightly bunkered approaches to the subtly contoured greens. So you need to be pretty spot-on with those short irons then.
One of Essex’s best tracks has staged several Eastern region PGA events. The century-old James Braid heathland design has fast-running fairways well protected by towering oaks and firs. With only two par 5s, scoring well is tough, especially when encountering the small, sloping greens and tight bunkering. The stroke-index-1 15th is a monster dog-leg of a par 4 and only big hitters can even think of finding the green in two!
Colchester Golf Club's golf course was originally designed by James Braid nearly a century ago and comprises four par 3s and two par 5s, meaning that getting anywhere close to the par of 70 is no mean feat.
With oak and fir trees lining both sides of most fairways and well-positioned bunkers protecting the greens, accuracy is important around Colchester Golf Club.
After your round has finished, sit down and relax in the welcoming clubhouse, which is over 100 years old in some parts. Don't worry though, it's all been recently refurbished!
