Barnham Broom Golf Club – Valley Course

What we say

Visitors to this club can expect to find a good and varied selection of well-maintained holes, with the four par-3s being particularly strong. There’s also another course, The Hill, designed by Donald Steel, that is well worth playing. The off-course facilities are excellent, for practising as well as eating and drinking. The star hole is the 373-yard, par-4 6th. Hit an accurate drive and you’re left with a great looking shot into a green surrounded by trees.

The real beauty of golf at Barnham Broom Golf Club in Norfolk is the contrasting character of the two golf courses and the challenges they offer. Take the Valley Golf Course (opened 1977), beautifully designed by Frank Pennink, one of Europe's most respected golf course architects, with abundant water features, blending into the delightful natural landscape. Then there's the Hill Golf Course (opened in 1989), another of Frank's designs, although this time modified by Donald Steel. As its name suggests, golfers can enjoy fine views over the surrounding countryside, while rising to the challenge posed by constant breezes and carefully placed bunkers guarding the greens.

  • 4 out of 5 Great day out at Barnham Broom

    By jenkie

We were lucky to have excellent weather and used our vouchers to play both the Hill and Valley courses. We enjoyed our rounds on both courses, although the Hill is rather more forgiving and we played this in the morning when we were less tired. The fairways on the Valley were more welcoming to play off and a number of the holes are very individual, especially three of the four par threes, each of which posed interesting challenges in their own way. The greens on both courses were true and in good condition especially given the amount of play they must get. It might be worth investing in a buggy if you are playing both courses in the same day. Given the popularity of the lcoation, the speed of play was not, in general, too slow.

  • 2 out of 5 Didn't live up to expectations

    By j.gleeson@brightmortgageadvice.com

I made the trip to Barnham Broom in March with high expectations. I'd read a little about the course on the net and by it's own billing it is meant to be one of the better tracks in East Anglia. However I found the course had an uninspiring layout (granted with the odd exception- holes 2 and 9 being my pick of the bunch) and only average presentaion by any standard. On the par 3 7th I was left speechless by the location of the temporary tee which needed to be seen to be believed. It was perched on the edge of an extremly steep slope and my main objective became hitting the ball without falling down the slope and breaking my neck rather than knocking it close. I've never seen anything like it to be honest and doubt I will ever again. I wouldn't say don't play the course but don't go to masses of effort

  • Not yet rated Winter Golf tour

    By Steve Owen

Had our usual "Winter tour" to Barnham Broom from the 28th to the 30 Dec. This was our 4th tour and was as usual excellent. Both courses were in good condition (Valley a bit wet!) but for the time of year outstanding. Played all 3 days and no rain! Food and accomadation excellent, booked again for next year - Tour number 5.
