Cretingham Golf Club

What we say

The family-run Cretingham Golf Club is set in 150 acres of mature woodland in the stunning Deben Valley.

In 2002 the golf course was extended from nine holes to 18 holes and the tight, tree-lined layout has greatly matured since it was originally laid out in the early 1980's providing challenging golf for all standards of player. If you enjoy playing par 3s, you'll love Cretingham Golf Club to bits - it has six of them!

The golf club has six new spacious and well-equipped Swiss-style log cabins on site for people to stay and play. Each lodge can sleep up to 8 people.

  • 3.5 out of 5 A fast improving course

Set in beautiful and peaceful Suffolk countryside Cretingham has always been a very pretty golf course, but perhaps lacking in quality in a few crucial areas: length, condition of fairways and greens and tees. However in recent years they seem to be working very hard to address these issues and make Cretingham a very wothwhile place to play. Cretingham has recently been lenghtened to almost 6000 yards, par 71, by replacing a couple of the par 3's, including the pitch-n-putt-esque 80 yard 12th hole, with a new par 5 and par 4. The new holes have improved the overall experience at Cretingham immensely and the course now provides a stern challenge for all levels of golfers. The course is a respectable length now (although there are still 2 or 3 par 4's which are drivable in one) and is fairly tight with hazards bounding most holes to the left and right. Drainage has been sorted out on most holes so there are no boggy holes as there used to be and on the whole the course is starting to look very good. More work could perhaps be done on some of the tees and on the greens which are a little hard in places, but these too have been greatly improved. I've played a lot of courses in the area and while quality wise Cretingham may not yet be up there with the best, in terms of course interest, location and atmosphere it is certainly one of the finest around.
