  • 4 out of 5 Worth a shot!

    By nathan finnis

Even though the course had had a battering from the rain, it was well worth the money. Lovely course layout with some challenging areas. Played two and a half rounds and would certainly return. Greens were well maintained and the groundsmen were out constantly ensuring that the fairways were at a good standard.

  • 4 out of 5 Bargain on 2 fore 1

    By Brett Bassam

Played here winter time last yr, course has improved alot, fariways are lush and course in almost great condition only let down by a few greens that were a bit scabby round the edges. Other that that very good and at £16 on 2 fore 1 you cant really grumble!

  • 2 out of 5 Not good

    By Reamer

Has potential. Needs tlc. Actually needs very little money spent on it. Under staffed. But very friendly and helpful. Hotel has same verdict.

  • 1 out of 5 In need of massive investment

    By Arnaldo

Sadly a course in massive decline. Tees overgrown and greens really struggling. Ditches and ponds need clearing out to allow fairways to drain. Low lying course so always in danger of flooding, but they need to help themselves. Played many times over last 7 years or so, but each time i visit it's in worse condition than the last time. Great layout but clearly in need of investment. Sad, but one to avoid from now on.

I played this with a friend on a 2fore1 scheme, and was excited about playing somewhere nice/Championship course, given what I had heard about it in the past. This was far from the truth. this course has the ability to be somewhere great and have the WOW factor, but it appear uncared for at present. The appears to have been cut with grass cutting all over the fairway, tee boxes been far from a good lie at times, with mole hills everywhere. The guy I played with has played there a number of times over the years and he commented also it is getting worse and that it was the worse state he has seen it. This course needs someone to bring it back to what it could truley be and amazing course, just needs some TLC. Given the weather we have had other course are blooming at present, and this still had bare patches on greens, or should i say 17 greens and one was blue? seems to have been dyed not sure why? the greens rolled well and the course was playable, but would really reconsider if you are looking for a championship course.

  • 3 out of 5 Good course poor managment and facilities

    By Jim Saddington

I attended this course as part of an 18 strong society. Our first game was on Friday teeing off at 1:30pm we got off at around 1:50. With 5 groups in our party and 16 strong society in front of us it wasn’t going to be a quick round. As a member of the last group we got back at 6:50pm. The course had booked us in for dinner at 7:00. Unable to meet our first dinner booking we were given a revised dinner slot of 8:30. Starters OK main course steaks or chicken OK but the vegetables had been cooked for 7:00 and were insipid and stuck burnt to the dishes. Other problems were noted that night mainly due to only one bar staff for over 50 guests (3 societies totalled 50 people alone) Saturday breakfast was good and we began to prepare for our 11:20 tee off. We were unable to buy water from the pro shop because the course had forgotten to order it (information from pro shop) a good day’s golf followed by a much better meal. Sunday was captains day so the place was packed; we got away for 11:30 but still couldn’t buy any water. The guy in charge of the pro shop suggested to a manager that a trip to the cash and carry to get some water but that wasn’t possible. They should have taken a tip from the captain who supplied lots of water (and other refreshments) for the members but the visitors had to go without. The course was great, interesting and challenging. The staff were very good but were operating under very difficult conditions brought about by poor guidance and management. This place is operating as a golf complex and separate hotel. On the Friday when I arrived I ordered a drink at the bar, the young lady serving me said the barrel needed changing, which she had to do. She left to change the barrel and returned 15 min later. On the Friday night another barrel needed changing but the young lad behind the bar couldn’t do it because he was the only person serving. The toilet seat in our room was broken, there was no remote for the TV and for our two night stay (sharing with one other person) we had three tea bags and two biscuits in total. Prior to my stay at the Suffolk I tried to find out some more about this championship course. There is no course web site and very little info about the place. I have been trying to contact the group that own the place but again it’s very difficult to get an address (e-mail or postal) This is a great golf course but they need to get their act together to manage it properly.
