Waldringfield Golf Club

What we say

Established in 1983 with a 9 hole course, Waldringfield Golf Club now offers a scenic 18 hole heathland course designed by P. Pilgrem. The course features various hazards in the form of numerous bunkers, mature trees and gorse. The course is built on fast-draining, sandy soil, meaning heavy rain should not cause closure, and also has a large reservoir, in order to keep the course in the best possible condition through dry summers, this means the course should be open throughout the year.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Great course spoilt by a fourball!!!

I had been looking forward to playing this local course for some time, waiting for the weather to improve enough so the experience wouldn't be ruined by a soggy course, even though Waldringfield has a reputation for being a well draining course. I couldn't have asked for a friendlier welcome from both the pro-shop and the bar/restaurant with everyone I met being very accommodating and pleasant. Both the pro-shop and Club house are modern buildings in what could be described as quite scenic surroundings so the facilities are of a good standard both inside and out. The course itself was in great condition and very picturesque without being stunning, the views of the surrounding area and each hole pleasing to the eye without having anything in the background to give that WOW factor, this said it is a very pleasant walk round. The front 9 is longer than the back 9 according to the card with some long and very tricky holes...you need to be accurate because if the gorse doesn't get you then some of the very well placed bunkers might. On this day I only played the front 9 as despite playing on my own and behind a fourball, I had to wait around on every tee as I wasn't asked to play through which I must admit left a sour taste in the mouth as what could have been a very enjoyable 3-4 hours of golf turned into a very fustrating and annoying 2 hours of what sometimes was hack and slash as I lost my rhythm on several occasions!!! I hope to come back and was hoping Waldringfield would become my regular track and my members club in the future but not if all the members are of the same mentality as the four gents I followed this morning!!!
