Chevin Golf Club

What we say

The greens were in good nick and the teeing areas were nice, while the fairway indicators were spot-on for the blind shots. The views are spectacular once you've made your way up the first nine. The star hole is the 381-yard, par-4 8th. It's regarded as one of the hardest holes in Derbyshire.

The Chevin Golf Club covers both parkland and moorland terrain with magnificent views across an amazing five counties from the Chevin Ridge. The golf course is very mature and established - it is 115 years old after all!

The history surrounding the course at the Chevin Golf Club includes, Palaeolithic to Bronze and Iron Age people and later Roman Legionnaires. The course was first conceived at the ‘Court House Farm’ where the old Court (now a private residence) houses a lock-up where prisoners were kept until their demise close to the 13th hole aptly named The Gibbet! This old course, is suitable for all levels of golfer.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Holes !!!!

We played Chevin Sunday 29th March with our society. The course is interesting with five par 3's and two par 5's. It's a short course but tricky. The first hole is a straight gentle par 4 then you slowly work your way up the hill to the 9th at the very top. The views are absolutely stunning and the course in general was in good condition. The two issues we had were poor sinage especially from the 13th to the 14th which slowed down play as we tried to find our way. The main problem was, as is with many courses this time of year was the condition of the greens, they had been heavily sanded and airated which is fine as they need to be done however the size of the holes used were huge and made putting very difficult also when marking your ball is would sometimes roll into the holes !!! We therefore felt the £30 green fees should have been reduced to reflect this. Apart from that we had a great day, the welcome and staff were superb , the members we met were pleasant, the food was great value and flexible not charging for one member who didn't turn up on the day. Overall I think Chevin is an excellent course, it's very interesting and a good test of golf, it was let down today by the condition of the greens, I would love to come back and play Chevin in the summer when I'm sure the greens would be superb, if your planning to play in March ask about the greens and try and get a reduced rate !
