What we say

Up to 50% off golf when you book on line

Just a few miles from the picturesque town of Ross-on-Wye is the South Herefordshire Golf Club. Built in 1990 the club has more recently undergone a transformation. The new management team took over early in 2005 and quickly set about improving the facilities and the golf course.

The club boasts the 6,800 yard Twin Lakes golf course, a 12 bay floodlit driving range and a nine hole par 3 academy golf course. The golf course has been improved by significant investment in new equipment, where the most obvious benefits can be seen on the tightly mown fairways and smooth fast running greens, a definite improvement!

  • 3.5 out of 5 a good course

I played here in August 2009 and i must say i think the course is very testing as there is a lot of hills so club selection can be hard. There is some really nice views all around you and some of the holes i thought were really good just to look at. You start with 300 yard par 4 uphill and then nice 550 yard par 5 with a blind tee shot (there are only 2 blind tee shots on the whole course). There is really good mix of long and short holes and really enjoyed trying to get the correct club for the shot. There were a couple of things that would put me off again there was very little sand in the bunkers and the car park is really tight. If you have never played there you could end up getting lost as there is no clear sign as to were the next hole is so you need to get a stoke saver to get round. Also i thought the greens were a little slow when i played but the course as a whole was in very good condition.

This is my local course but I'm not a member because of the wealth of venues to play in and around South Herefordshire. I've played it a dozen or so times over the years and its getting a lot better, possibly due to it being under new ownership. The course is currently in great shape, the tees, greens and fairways are superb but the bunkers could be improved if asked to be fussy. The layout is very interesting which provides some great holes, particularly 2nd through to 6th and 12th through to the 18th. Its great to play any time of the year but its a bit exposed on top of the course so brace yourself during the winter months. The Club now has a much improved bar area and driving range. Its good to see someone throwing some money at it, and without the green fees being affected. Don't know if the membership fees have. Would consider joining in the future.
