Worfield Golf Club

What we say

Opened in 1991 and was designed by Trevor Williams and David Gough.
Located in the heart of Shropshire’s beautiful countryside with magnificent views over the surrounding landscape, it offers an excellent golfing challenge in a picturesque setting.
The championship length course is 18 holes, par 73 and is 6,600 yards from the white tees (6,419 yards from the yellow tees, 5,666 yards from the ladies’ tees). It includes a large practice area, practice putting green, chipping and bunker area and a pitching green. The course is laid out in two loops of nine holes, which return to the clubhouse. The 9th and 18th greens are immediately in front of the clubhouse and both require an approach shot across the lake. The good natural drainage of the soil, combined with the automatic computerised irrigation system, high-quality greens and large tees, ensures play all year round.

  • 4 out of 5 Worfield - Shropshire golf at it's best

Just back from a superb Society day's golf. The course was in superb condition and the greens were almost totally unblemished, rolled very true and were very slick as well. The course is pretty hilly in places but easy enough to negotiate and I didn't find it too difficult or tiring to play 27 holes without a buggy. You start with a long uphill par 4, and then go back down with another par 4. The third hole isn't that long, but there are 2 cavernous bunkers protecting it and escaping them is definitely not easy for even competent bunker players. There aren't too many bunkers around the course and they all seem consistent. Overall there is a lot of variety on the course and you can use your driver on most of the par 4s and 5s without too much fear of getting into trouble. There isn't that much rough and even if the balls go in amongst the trees, finding them isn't too difficult as the grass is well trimmed under them. The clubhouse is nicely presented and the food we had (bacon sarnies to start the day, and mixed sarnies and chips for lunch were well prepared and presented) Drinks were reasonably priced and the service was good. Overall I can highly recommend the course though it is by no means easy, especially if the wind blows (as it did) because it is pretty open. If you're nearby and want to play golf, you will enjoy this course.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Great course whatever the weather

I have played this course a few times now and I am always impressed by the condition of the course no matter what Mother Nature has thrown at it. Always in good condition, hats off to the green keepers.

  • 5 out of 5 Great course, whatever the weather

I had good memories of playing this course in the mid nineties, so I jumped at the chance to play it again last weekend. I played the course twice over the weekend, once in constant rain on saturday and once in the sunshine on monday. I felt the greens were fast in the rain, but they were lightning quick in the dry! The course drains really well, is pretty hilly, offers some great views and there are some great driving holes offering some generous help down some of the hills. The 9th is a great par 5 which, if you kick on down the bank with your tee shot, gives you a risk/reward dilemma with your second over the water protecting the green. The par 3 13th is a beauty, very picturesque. Watch out for the cross wind or you won't find the narrow green! You won't be disappointed if you play Worfield GC.

  • 4 out of 5 Winter Wonder

    By R0bertsonS

I have played this course every christmas eve for the last three years and each time I am amazed how good it copes with the late autumn and early winter conditions. This year the greens were exceptional and someone should get a pat on the back. It is quite a long course and you tend to be hitting mid irons into the par 4 greens but the hole varient is very diverse and this course should not be missed.

What a little cracker this is. The off-course facilities are excellent and the staff and members very friendly. There is plenty of variety on the course and the opportunity to let rip from some of the tees. The fairways are always in good condition as are the greens. The bunkers are not brilliant, but then you shouldn't really be finding them should you! It is quite hilly and will take it out of you, but the views are worth the climbs. The end of each 9 holes sends you towards the clubhouse with holes down hill with water in front of the greens. Keeps you honest and on your game to the very end. I travel over a hundred miles to play on this course with a society each year, and each year it seems even better. Give it a go you won't be sorry.
