Swindon Golf Club (Dudley)

What we say

Swindon Golf Club's golf course is set in beautifully picturesque parkland that was originally owned by the Earl of Dudley. In 1974 the land was developed into a 9 hole golf course.

It was then developed into a full 18 hole golf course in 1976 and was known as "Blackhills Golf Club".

  • 4 out of 5 Short but very tight

    By Fazza

Played there just today and was very pleasantly surprised. We paid £ 17.50 for our round and it was an absolute bargain. Whilst not the longest course it is by far one of the tightest I have played and very demanding when not hitting the ball well. Irons or hybrids off most tees will see you in decent range for 2nd shots for most holes except the odd long par 4 and par 5s but even then the greens are well guarded by more trees. The biggest surprise though was the quality of the greens. They were an excellent standard (much better than Beau Desert which I played earlier in the year) and with very few straight putts even from short range. The facilities were more than adequate. My only criticism would be that the bunkers were lacking some sand and they would benefit from some reshaping and tidying up. Also, and this is a criticism I aim at virtually every course, the tees should be level and are always too big. Other than Par 3s where divots mean they need to be bigger allowing for grass recovery, the tee boxes need only be quite small.

Arrived to be greated by friendly staff who showed me were the first tee was and then as playing on my own was greated by friendly members who asked me to join them in a round. Tees and greens in very good condition. great views from many of the holes and was very impressed with holes 13, 14, and 15 which were all lined with pines. Most of the holes on the course are tree lined making it very tight in places. Not a very long course but will deffinatly be back!

  • 2.5 out of 5 Keep the ball straight !!

Although relatively short compared to modern day layouts, Swindon provides a tough test due frequent tree line fairways. In the summer, the veiws are tremedous, but the course can be fairly poor this time of year. Star hole - 5th,an absolutely breathtaking pine lined par 5.
