Dudley Golf Club

What we say

Talk about golf on high. Dudley Golf Club’s hilltop layout will literally take your breath away. It’s golf in the clouds – when we visited a mist descended within minutes though thankfully it dispersed as quickly as it came. Dudley is certainly no place for the faint-hearted… or for golfers who might struggle to combat some pretty steep climbs. Because of its exposed open-ness the weather is always a key factor as is the ability to keep the ball arrow-straight off the tee  to find the pencil-thin fairways. It’ll probably break your heart but you’ll have good fun trying to combat deadly Dudley’s virtues.

Dudley Golf Club was founded in 1893, as a nine-hole golf course The chosen site was an area now covered by the Russells Hall Estate at Himley Road. In 1928 the golf course, now extended to 18 holes moved to Rowley Hills and in 1968, after relinquishing its first six holes in Oakham Road, built the present Clubhouse and created six new holes to establish the present golf course.

  • 4 out of 5 Dudley Golf Course

    By Danite

Lovely course fairways and greens in very good condition. However, course I've very hilly especially the front nine. Play several times to get used to the terrain. Scored 97.

Played this course for first time about 2 months ago and to say we were dissapointed would be an understatement! mountain goat land in very average condition... save your money!!

  • 4 out of 5 A little gem, a truer test of the art of golf you will be hard pushed to find

    By topcathq

OK, lets get the downside out of the way first, The course is tight with blind holes and is fairly hilly....... But it is a little gem, a truer test of the art of golf you will be hard pushed to find. Its tight fairways are fair and there are always bail out areas on most tee shots, which allow you to hit slightly wayward without the ultimate punishment of a lost ball. If you are accurate then a par or birdie waits on every tee. The greens are well grassed but run true and reasonably fast with them all reacting the same way around the course, there are postage stamp green and then there are some smaller! Staff were very friendly in the pro shop, on the course and afterwards in the Clubhouse. Talking to members on the course we well received and aided by people giving us tips on where to best place the tee shot, if only we had been up to the task of using the advice. Personally I found the best holes on the course to be the 3rd and 4th, the stoke index 1 3rd is 433 yards of tight par 4 which needs both acurate 1st and 2nd shot to set up a par, the following Par 3 at only 131 yards you think why is it stroke index 9, but with a very small green surrounded by problems finding the green from the tee is not as easy at you what hope. This course is well worth a visit if you are in the area, especially on a 2fore1 deal.

this course is more for mountain goats than golfers.Unfriendly member on the course that shouted 4 letter words at me and a very uninspiring course.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Unpredictable weather!

    By Anonymous

It's a fair course though it's as unpredictable as the weather. There's several tough holes and the two par 3s on the front nine are real killers.

  • 3 out of 5 Very hilly

    By Anonymous

It's hill, very hilly and you get all the weathers up here. It never plays the same two days running.

  • 3 out of 5 Good golfing

    By Anonymous

A very enjoyable though tricky course. Beware, its shortness is more than made up by its trickiness, specially when the fairways are hard. The course is hilly and thereby has very fine views. The pro, staff and members are very friendly. The green fees are £20 for two (with voucher) . HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. good golfing.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Hard on the legs

    By Anonymous

It's an unusual, tight course and the par 3s down the bottom of the course are potential card wreckers. It's very up and down and hard on the legs.
