What we say

The Marple Golf Club is a tricky little parkland golf course which is a good test of your iron play is how the golf course guides usually describe Marple. However, those who know Marple /...Child' well are aware that there is much more to the golf club.

The golf club, at Marple, is friendly and steeped in history and tradition. After playing this short but testing course golfers can enjoy the spike bar and Sky TV area. Bar snacks through to four-course meals are available and there's a lovely patio area overlooking the 18th green with outstanding views.

  • 1.5 out of 5 Rude and unhelpful staff, rude members, boring course!

I booked a society at this course, having not played there before. Warrived on the tee 15 minutes before our alloted tee time but then there was a rush of members who appeared on the tee and who duely queued infront of us as though we weren't there. When our alloted tee time came we tried to go on the tee but were rudely challenged by the queueing members who stood on the tee refusing to move even though we expalined we had the tee reserved. After ten minutes patient waiting they still wouldn't give way so we spoke to the lad in the pro shop, he "knew the members so didn't want to get involved." (I thought that was part of his job!) Eventually we tee'd off 30 minutes late and very frustrated. To be honest it didn't really put us in the right frame of mind but the course was flat and boring anyway so it didn't really spoil it too much! Afterwards I felt so upset that I wrote to the Committee of the club but I got an unhelpful reply saying they couldn't identify the members concerned (even though I had given them two names I had been given by the pro!) and so they couldn't do anything. I for one will vote with my wallet, there are plenty of friendly golf clubs locally who will welcome 28 green fees from my society!
