Styal Golf Club

What we say

The 18 hole golf course

The eighteen hole golf course opened in 1994. It was carefully designed with U.S.G.A specification greens, measuring 6238 yards off the competition tees and stretching over 160 acres of Cheshire’s finest countryside. The golf course is now well established and has already been chosen to host several Professional golf tournament’s, its layout consists of many challenging and enjoyable holes with both the ninth and eighteenth greens within close proximity to the clubhouse.

The 9 hole Academy course

A perfect addition to compliment the eighteen hole golf course. Its careful design includes U.S.G.A specification greens and the latest grass feel technology teeing areas. The two combined give you the best putting surfaces and near perfect teeing conditions all year round. The course measures 1203 yards off the competition tees. The Academy course is an ideal venue for “a quick nine”, yes, within a lunch break, on the way back from work, or just before you venture to the shops you will be able to play nine holes in little over one hour. We believe, at present the Academy is one of the finest par three courses in the country, an ideal learning ground for the beginner and yet a challenging test for the established player who wishes to sharpen his/her game.

The driving range

Twenty four luxurious floodlit indoor bays and eight outdoor bays await your enjoyment. Twenty of the indoor bays are fitted with the latest ‘Power-tees’. The ‘Power-tee’ enables you to hit golf balls without bending down; the balls are continuously teed up for you, allowing you to practice your swing without braking your rhythm or concentration.

The clubhouse can cater for up to eighty (seated) guests and is available for private functions, conferences and golf days. The restaurant is open seven days per week serving fresh food daily. • 3 out of 5 10 minutes from work

Interesting layout, no holes are the same.Lots of room for driving so relatively easy for higher handicappers to enjoy. Greens could be quicker but the amount of use the course gets can understand they want to keep the grass slightly longer. We play a couple of times per month after work and the atmosphere in the club is always great.

September 2012 = worst rain in 40 years; apparently.. Styal must have some serious drainage pipes under the ground - as apart from the 3 holes tucked away on the front 9 (ie 6,7 & 8) there was very little sign of water on the course. Wouldn't say it was a difficult course but its not the type of place where you can grip it and rip it, some thought has to be put into your shots. Its right by Manchester Airport so its pretty flat and surprisingly the planes do not bother you. Greens moved at a nice pace and the fairways are kept relatively clean / uniform. all in all a good course to play.

  • 3 out of 5 Its all about position off the tee!

A good challenge for all standards of player. It is essential to hit your tee shot to the correct landing area. A deceptive par 70, a joy to play in the summer.
