Carlisle Golf Club

What we say

Cumbria’s parkland pride is located virtually a thumping drive from the M6, but you’d never know – the attractive gently undulating course is majestically lined by an assortment of mature trees. The 13th is a cracking par-3 through an avenue of timber to a small, two-tiered green while another key hole is the 11th, a 90-degree tree-lined dog-leg and a ditch thrown in for good measure. A hybrid off the tee and 8-iron into the green should do the job… but it’s a tricky proposition.

Carlisle Golf Club is a superb golf course with facilities to match. Cumbria is not really known for the quality of its golf courses, but this is an exception and is a friendly one – in terms of its welcome. But don’t expect an easy ride – there are some tricky holes out there. A lovely, tree-lined parkland on reasonably level ground with just a few swales and slopes.

Trees are in play on most holes so it’s very much a case of placing the ball in the right position, with brain definitely ruling over brawn. Then you get to try your luck on the slippery greens.

Take a full day, and really get to grips with the intricasies of the track by playting it twice. Some tempting holes, and some real testers wher par is a birdie to most of us. Usually in great nick, only issue can be water retention (as with most of us!) during the wet winter months. Summer parkland golf at it's beautiful best though, and a most enjoyable day out. The Pro there is one of the nicest Guys in the game to boot. So hurry along and book a tee!
