Seascale Golf Club

What we say

Seascale isn’t even the best golf course in Cumbra, a county not known for its golfing pedigree, but don’t let that put you off; it’s second only to Silloth – a course that belongs in the World Top 100 – and Seascale is one of the best, most historic golf courses in England.

Silloth takes all the plaudits as the pride of Cumbria and rightly so – it is a World Top 100 course according to us, and if you haven’t been fortunate enough to play there, when you do go, you’ll realise why.

But Seascale is a wonderful No.2 in a county that is not one of England most celebrated from a golf perspective.

Situated on the West coast of Cumbria with views of the Isle of Man and Scotland to the west, the mountains of the Lake District to the eas, Seascale enjoys a delightful setting. But it is a lot more than merely pretty. It encompasses all the aspects we love about a links course; the funky land, the clever greens, the penal bunkering, a snaking stream, fabulous turf and a ‘glad to be alive’ feeling.

Founded in 1893, Seascale was designed by Willie Campbell and George Lowe, whose other work included The Machrie and Royal Lytham respectively.

It is thus one of the most historic courses in Britain, and oozes authenticity and pedigree.

It is an unfussy golfers’ golf club and its traditional links charms all who visit.

Packed full of characterful and memorable holes, Seascale is presented perfectly; conditioned with care and attention but with a rugged appeal that will appeal to connoisseurs.

Seascale is in my opinion a superb course. It is may favourite links course and is excellent considering the price. The views out to sea are spoiled however by sellafield. My favourite hole at Seascale is the 10th, a great short par three with a small green beyond the beck. I would recommend Seascale to anyone.

Great course with great views of the lakeland fells. Only problem is Sellafield. Course is well looked after with a good mixture of holes. Worth 2 for 1 visit.
