  • 4 out of 5 Enjoy a challenge

We played the course.on the 9th June for the first time, the course was in excellent condition 7 the greens were exceptional. You are exposed to the elements if its windy and raining, but otherwise its a good challenge for all levels of golfers.

If you are fed up with playing parkland courses in the North West, treat yourself to a day out at Longridge and enjoy a different type of challenge. Although you are miles from the sea, it almost plays like a links course as it is very exposed to the wind being on top of a hill. On a clear day you can see for miles and miles and miles. You can certainly see Blackpool Tower and "The Big One" but also the Northe Wales mountains, the Pennines and South Lakeland peaks.  I have played the course a few times now, at different times of the year, and always found it in reasonable condition. The greens are good and the fairways are a bit patchy in places but that is undoubtably due to the type of soil that the course is built on, rather than poor greenstaff. As the layout is on a hill, you have to be prepared for all kinds of uphill, downhill and sidehill lies, but this adds to the experience of playing here. On most holes there is plenty of room to take driver, and you'll certainly need it when you are playimg into the wind. Good beer and limited, but excellent, range of bar snacks await you at the 19th, where you can see if anyone hits the clubhouse with their approach to 18 as you reward yourself with a drink and a review of another good round at a real gem of a course.

I played this course in matchplay  format, I won on the 17th the massive downhiller. Its a good course but some of the holes are well easy with wind, I hit driver ,wedge to a par 5. but there is a 220 yard par3 into 50mph winds which poses a problem.

Lovely course to play with fantastic views over preston and blackpool, don't be put off by the first 2 and last 2 holes being on the hill as when you play 3 - 16 they are over the road and are laid out fantastic with some tricky holes. Tees and greens where in fantastic condition when played and clubhouse is one of the most welcoming i've ever come across, food fantastic too. Will be playing it again
