Don't play it when wet, but awesome in fair to good weather. You will be hard beat to find a better course within 20miles. Expensive, but well worth the extra money. Perfect greens and massive challenges on most holes. One or two easier ones to keep you interested on a bad day.

Just returned from a £85 dinner, bed & breakfast deal for 24 of us on a Sunday/Monday basis. Great value for money and the hotel matches the standard you come to expect from the Marriott group. The course was in great nick for the time of the year (October). One or two of the tees were a little wet, but these tended to be where the teeing area was set back in the trees. But the rest of the course was great. EXCEPT - the bunkers. Many of them were subject to GUR as recent bad weather had made them unplayable. With a little forethought, the greenstaff should have introduced a drop zone at the back of each of these GUR bunkers, That way there would be no marking out relief and then having to play of a steep downhill lie back over the bunker. Woulld help speed things up a bit as well. If you get the chance, then book the deal.

The welcome was excellent all the facilities in the hotel were top notch pro shop was good. The pro warned us that the rough was very wet as had a lot of rain but the fairways were still ok. At the 1st tee the fairway looked in pretty good shape but by the 2nd all of the group managed to find the fairway only to struggle to find our balls which were eventually found heavily buried. These conditoins on the fairway continued on most holes. Despite this the layout looked a good challenge especially the par-3 7th, playing over a pond and a stream. The condition of the tees and greens were excellent. Overall we were left slightly disappointed but would like to try the course in better condition.

A polite and professional welcome is what you would expect form the Marriott, and is exaclty what you get, from the reception to the Starter and onto the course the people are first class. As you wait to tee off on #1 the vast "Himalayan" putting green gives you a clue as to just how fast the greens are going to be, so take a few mins to practice.......you'll need it. A nice gentle par 4 greets you from the first tee box, and the theme is set for the day. Keep it in the fairway and out of the rough if you want any chance of par or better. The greens are superb, hard and firm (even though it had been closed the weekend before for being waterlogged) and if you have missed the fairway stopping the ball may prove difficult. A good putting stroke is essential if you are going to try and get it close from a "lag". Overall there's enough to keep both the weekend player and the seasoned golfer interested through out, in the form of rough and water, and the despite the inclement weather the majority of bunkers were still light and fluffy, but a couple were bereft of sand and were quite hard. However, be prepared for a long day as the members that we played with advised that being let through as a 2-ball is a rareity so it makes sence to play as a 3 or 4, as we did, and enjoy the day. It's not hard to see why the Europro tour has stopped here before, and is likely to again and using 2-fore-1 on a weekday was exceptional value. I am already looking forward to playing again this year, hopefully a bit sunnier this time...
